Weighing in

As was previously established, I don't want to focus on my weight as a measurement of how well I am doing in becoming healthier, but I also want to track my weight for obvious reasons. So....how often should I weigh myself?? I don't want to do it too frequently (which I am currently doing) because the scale has a way of shifting my attitude and confidence in a single moment. When the number on a scale becomes the only indicator of progress, what happens when there is no change on that scale? Or, worse yet, when that number goes up?? Even when I've been eating salad so much that I'm turning green. It becomes more difficult for me to believe in the value of the healthy choices I'm making. Sometimes, it will send me into a downward spiral of poor eating because "it doesn't matter anyway". It doesn't matter that I have more energy, that my skin looks better, that I have less gas...the number on the scale trumps all of these when I weigh myself frequently.

So....once a month?? And I still haven't decided if I'll be sharing my weight with the blog, but I will be posting pictures soon. I'd like to do that once a month to show any changes in my body that might be happening.

Next up....My Story...how I came to be an overweight chiropractor, and my plans for a healthier me.

  1. Hmmm ... my vote is once per week. Wake up, pee, weigh in. I always do my own measurements too, but I do those monthly. That way ... the discouragement of not seeing the scale move can be encouragement to see the inches drop :)

  2. Jean - I was going to take my measurements, too, and I like your comment about being encouraged by losing inches in case the scale is not moving. They tell us that muscle does weigh more than fat :)

  4. Liz - good times, eh? :) I'm going to do mine, as well. I haven't done them in over two years, so it should be interesting. I'm going to start weighing myself weekly, but if it becomes too distracting, I'll move to once every two weeks.
